A man was apparently very worry and could not sleep, he turn here and there and no matter what he did even with sleeping pill, he still could not sleep. This had annoyed his wife so she asked him, “what’s your problem?”
The man answered,” You know, the few millions loan that our company borrowed from the bank, tomorrow is the due date, and we have no money to settled it.”
The wife after listening to the predicament of her husband, asked for the phone number of the bank manager and wen to make a phone call. A few minutes later, she told her husband that he can go to sleep now. Everything has been settled.
Her husband was curious as to what did his wife told the bank manager and she look so cool. So he asked.
His wife than told her husband, “Simple, I just told him that you company would not be able to pay them tomorrow for the few millions debts. Now he will be the one who is worrying now, not you. Let’s go to sleep.”
While transfer of “risk” is a common practice in risk management, it sure not a solution in stress management. And the following give a better solution.
In a stress management boot camp, the trainers on the very first day the group of participants in order for the training to work, they are having a very special project and to make the project work, the participants need to collect various sizes of stones. The usage of the stone is very simple, it will be use to write down the person they hate and do not forget and or forgive.
“wow, that will be fun!” said many of the participants, so out all the participants go to the field to collect as many stones as they could. When they were back in the training hall, the trainer asked them to separate the stones they collected and write down the name of the person they hated most on the biggest stone they had. The person they hated next, his or her name will be written on the next bigger stone, so the list go down and the stone get smaller. Eventually, many of them written down tiny little stuff that their friends or some one whom they don’t even know, did something that they do not like.
When all the participants finished writing, the trainer handed them each a bag and their next assignment is to carry the bag with all the stone, to where ever they go during the three days boot camp, breakfast, lunch , dinner, out door activities as well as inside the training hall.
Over lunch, some people started to feel strenuous in carrying the bag, over dinner, more complaints were heard on the rational behind the exercise and the relationship between stress management and carrying the bag of stones. The next day after breakfast, many of the participants could not handled it any longer and voiced it out to the trainer. And the trainer calmly replied, “Just put it down as you wish any time.” And he continue to share his wisdom. But the complaints never stopped and some stubborn one still refused to put it down.
The trainer than asked the participants, “What do you feel when you are carrying the stones of hatred?”
Many of the participants answer, “Pain and suffering!”
The trainer then asked again, “What do you feel when lay down the bag of hatred stones?”
“Relief!” exclaimed many of the participants, and the trainer then said to them,”While you feel relief in laying down the bag of hatred stones, and knowing that carrying hatred physically hurt, but why are you still carrying the hatred in your mind and your heart?”
“Just let is go!”
Are you still carrying the hatred, pain and suffering in your heart and mind? If prolong carrying the bag of hatred stones hurt, imagine what damage can the hatred, pain and suffering can do to you mentally and emationally.
