Finally, the Beijing Olympics 2008 was declared opened last night. It started with a spectacular display of Chinese culture span over 3000 years of history. The opening ceremony has really shown the creativity of the general director of Beijing Olympics Game opening ceremony Mr. Zhang Yimou and his organizing committee. A big Thumb Up for them.
The count down of the ceremony started with the approaching of a giant footstep away from the Bird’s Nest, the giant footstep was display by an array of firework moving toward the Bird’s Nest. I believe it signify to the
world that The Giant is coming no only on the Olympic, but economically as well as politically.There was a lot of controversies and challenges on the Beijing Olympics, from the air quality of the hosting city Beijing, to the many demonstrations to discredit the host and the natural disasters that hit China, the worse being the SzeChuan earthquake, but the spirit and the determination of the host has never been daunted despite the challenges and it prove to the world that. this will be the best ever Olympics.
It was reported that The Chinese Government throw in US$40 billion for the Olympic on the infrastructure work, the World Renowned Bird’s Nest and it’s associated stadiums. The opening had attracted some 150,000 audiences that include Head of states of 80 countries. The opening cultural dances involved about 15,000 people to show the world the rich culture of China and the harmony with the many ethnic community of China. I was watching the opening ceremony last night, the performance intrigue me, the coordination and synchronization of the 2008 dancers and the high tech display of lighting was just perfect. And early this morning, I watch a talk show where the China CCTV reporters interviewed many people including foreign tourists who had watch the telecast live in many cities are full of praises on the opening ceremony and the performances.
One of the interviewee said that those she could not participated in the Olympics, but she could participate in the joys of the people in this world who love to watch the Olympic. I do love to watch the Olympics as it is so inspiring to see people of different countries, belief, race and religion had one common Goal, that is to participate fully. One World One Dream!

Olympics are always interesting and similar to what you said, though I never participated in the Olympics I always felt part of them.
I had several friend that tried to get an invitation to try out - and 3 or 4 did. None made the team but they love to say that they were invited to try.
