If you have attended any motivational seminar or talk before, you will sure to learn that to be successful, one must set Goal. The fundamental of goal setting is having a smart goal. It is an acronym for
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Realistic
- Time Bound
Interestingly, the SMART goal does not include action, personally, I prefer the A to be Action, since it has Realistic and Measurable, it have to be achievable. Every year, millions attended seminars which taught goal setting, time management and many other skills, if these seminar are so successful in getting people to be successful, why then many people keep coming back without much progress in their life.
To be successful, there is much more than just setting goal and taking action! One of the best story I heard about having goal and working hard is just not the way to be successful, it is not what you do but how you do it that makes the different. The story below may illustrate that point.
Many years ago, a village send out invitation to entrepreneurs to help solving their water shortage problem that the villagers face. Two young men went to the remote village and wanted t o get the job. Both are ambitious and wanted to achieve something for their life (goal).
They both visited the village, look around, asked and talked to villagers on their need. The first young man, after talking to the villagers, went off without saying much. The second young man seeing that, immediately started work to supply water to the villagers. He brought two buckets and started carrying water from the nearby stream to the village water storage pond. Being young and strong, he was able to carry enough water to make some good money every day. The villagers was happy and the business was good, he then employed two more young men to help carrying water for him, business is even better and he WORKED HARD toward achieving his goal of making good money.
Few months later, the first young man came back with two other persons, they went around and did a survey and left. It seemed that there is not competition for the second young man, business is booming. Another few months later, the first young man came back with a team of people, they started constructing reservoir and piping to each villager house. Not long after, every house in the village has cheap, clear and ready water and the villagers willing pay the the first young man loyalty for providing the system. With the ready supply of water, the work of the second young man was redundant and he had to find another village to start all over again.
Is Goal and Hard Work enough to make one successful?
You may have Smart Goal and work hard, but circumstances may beat out of the race before you even able to measure what is your progress. Both young men have goal and they work hard, but one work SMARTER then the other. He created a System while the other just work hard. It is not enough to have Goal, working hard and measuring your progress, Journey to Success is more that just having goal and take action.
The question here is What Action are you taking? Find out more on Success Strategy here.
If you are still earning the M1 money like the second young man, and did not know about what is M2 and M3 let alone knowing how to earn it, you owe yourself to find it how now!
